Information

After a successful international career, Heinrich Eduard von Lade (1817–1904) returned to Geisenheim to create an extraordinary retirement residence with Villa Monrepos. From 1860 onwards, not only a neoclassical manor house was built here, but also an extensive park modeled on English landscapes, which served as a model garden for fruit and wine cultivation from an early stage.

Today, the approximately 3.6-hectare, listed estate presents itself as a fascinating interplay of eras: While sequoias and cedars of Lebanon date back to the founding period, architectural elements from the 1950s and 1960s – designed by Prof. Dr. Gerd Däumel – shape the modern character of the park.

Particularly exciting for the present day: Heat-loving exotics such as the silk tree and the staghorn sumac thrive in the park.

These species are considered important beacons of hope for greening our cities in the face of climate change by 2026. Monrepos thus remains true to its original purpose: a vibrant connection between aesthetics, research, and teaching.
