Förderverein Cinema Concetta Rüsselsheim
Since 1994, some 45,000 viewers have seen over 500 films. The foundation has long been considered an established institution for promoting satirical short films and, in particular, young, up-and-coming talent. To date, prize money has totaled around a quarter of a million euros – including awards given to future Oscar and German Film Award winners such as Thomas Stellmach, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Dietrich Brüggemann, and Carsten Strauch.
Names such as the Rüsselsheim-based artist and filmmaker Martin Kirchberger and his collaborators, including Ralf Malwitz and Klaus Stieglitz from the former film team Cinema Concetta, which gave its name to the later foundation, remain prominent. They, along with 25 other members, perished in a plane crash in December 1991 during the very last filming of "Bunkerlow." "Bunkerlow," a film about a coffee trip above the clouds, was being shot and marked Kirchberger's first time receiving public funding—a five-figure sum from sources including the Hamburg Film Fund and the state of Hesse. As is tradition, the program opens with a satirical work by Martin Kirchberger: "Chair in Extreme Situations" from 1986
