Information

Town history yesterday - today - tomorrow. The museum of the town of Butzbach is dedicated to the history of the northern Wetterau region from Roman times to the present day. A model of the Roman Hunneburg fort is located in the basement of the historic museum building. It is embedded in the floor and can be walked through by visitors. The museum is the Limes Information Centre of the western Wetterau for the Limes, which has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. Museum visitors can also learn about the Butzbach teacher Friedrich Ludwig Weidig (1791 - 1837). As an important member of the democratic movement, Friedrich Ludwig Weidig contributed to a free political, economic and social order and fought for freedom as a "Vormärz revolutionary".  The costume section is devoted primarily to Wetterau costume. A wedding procession and a bride and groom in traditional costume from the 19th century present the common wedding attire of the time.  In the display collection of miniature shoes, miniature shoes by Richard Fenchel are on show. The shoes are handmade true to the original on a scale of 1:3. These miniature shoes made it into the Guinness Book of Records.  The museum works closely with the Butzbach municipal archive. On the archive's homepage: www.stadtarchiv-butzbach.de 700 years of town history are made accessible online. Currently, the first sources are already available as complete digital copies: e.g. the town accounts, which offer a fascinating insight into the development of the town of Butzbach from 1371 to 1806 with almost no gaps.
