Information

High above the Rhine, near Niederheimbach, sits an old "robber baron castle", which seems to have sprung directly from the fairy tale. It is built on a ridge; it seems beaten out of the rock; it is legendary and overgrown with roses. Castle Sooneck, on the steep slope on the edge of the Soonwald, is pure Rhine romance. Since the 11th century, the walls are located there, over the Engtal between Bingen and Koblenz. It is an ideal example of a medieval castle: if the castle did not exist, it would need to be built instantly!
