The Motettenchor Frankfurt is one of the most renowned and top-performing concert choirs in the Rhine-Main region. The ensemble has performed in numerous German cities and abroad, in Strasbourg, Rome, Barcelona, ​​Terrassa and St. Petersburg with a cappella and orchestra programs. Since its founding in 1991, the choir has developed an enormous repertoire, ranging from choral works of the Renaissance and all of Johann Sebastian Bach's motets to romantic choral cycles and works by international composers of the 20th century. The choir owes its special profile in the Frankfurt choral landscape primarily to the variety of its programs, which often move beyond the established repertoire. In this way, attention is deliberately drawn to unusual musical content and references. The choir regularly devotes itself to the performance of contemporary choral music, including numerous world premieres, such as B. at the "Frankfurter Positions" festival together with the Ensemble Modern or with the clarinetist Giora Feidman at the memorial concert on the seventieth anniversary of the Kristallnacht in Frankfurt. Choir director Thomas Hanelt discovered the opera "Carlo Magno" by Giuseppe Nicolini in an Italian library in 2013 and performed it again for the 1200th anniversary of Charlemagne in 2014 for the first time after 200 years with international soloists and the male voices of the motet choir.

A special feature of the choir is the series "Der Motettenchor Frankfurt gehört zu den renommiertesten und leistungsfähigsten Konzertchören der Rhein-Main Region. Das Ensemble ist in zahlreichen deutschen Städten und im Ausland, in Strasbourg, Rom, Barcelona, Terrassa und in St. Petersburg mit A-cappella- und Orchesterprogrammen aufgetreten. Seit seiner Gründung 1991 hat sich der Chor ein enormes Repertoire erarbeitet, das von Chorwerken der Renaissance über sämtliche Motetten Johann Sebastian Bachs bis hin zu romantischen Chorzyklen und Werken internationaler Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts reicht. Der Chor verdankt sein besonderes Profil in der Frankfurter Chorlandschaft vor allem der Vielfalt seiner Programme, die sich oft jenseits des etablierten Repertoires bewegen. So soll die Aufmerksamkeit bewusst auf ungewöhnliche musikalische Inhalte und Bezüge gelenkt werden. Dabei widmet sich der Chor regelmäßig der Aufführung zeitgenössischer Chormusik, darunter zahlreiche Uraufführungen, wie z. B. beim Festival „Frankfurter Positionen“ gemeinsam mit dem Ensemble Modern oder auch mit dem Klarinettisten Giora Feidman beim Gedenkkonzert zum siebzigsten Jahrestag der Reichspogromnacht in Frankfurt. Chorleiter Thomas Hanelt entdeckte 2013 in einer italienischen Bibliothek die Oper „Carlo Magno“ von Giuseppe Nicolini und führte sie zum 1200 jährigen Karlsjubiläum 2014 nach 200 Jahren erstmals mit internationalen Solisten und den Männerstimmen des Motettenchores wieder auf.

Eine Besonderheit des Chores ist die Reihe „Chormusik und Literatur", in which many prominent actors such as Karl Michael Vogler, Otto Sander, Christian Brückner, Walter Sittler, Michael Quast, Willy Praml and Leslie Malton have taken part.

In 2019 the cast of the choir was changed. Since then, the Motettenchor Frankfurt has only performed with its female voices. The newly formed women's choir has made it its priority to maintain outstanding women's choir works. One focus of the programs is on contemporary choral music, primarily by interesting international female composers. The program concept of the choir includes an annual Christmas concert in the Deutschordenskirche in Frankfurt with Benjamin Britten's choral cycle "A Ceremony of Carols" in connection with new choral music.
