Literarisches Zentrum Gießen
35390 Gießen
The Literarische Zentrum Gießen is an association founded in November 2009 to maintain and promote the literary tradition and culture of the university town of Gießen and its region.
Gießen has a well-developed literary infrastructure: in addition to literary traditions (established by Nikolaus von Gießen, Johann Balthasar Schupp(ius), Friedrich Maximilian Klinger, Georg Büchner, Alfred Bock and Ernst Eckstein), which are updated in many ways, Gießen also has a wide range of contemporary literature. Committed authors from the region also play a decisive role here.
Awarded the Hessian Reading Promotion Prize 2011
The Literarische Zentrum Gießen (LZG), founded in 2009, aims to promote literary life in the city and district of Gießen through readings, exhibitions, festivals, guided tours and lectures, among other things, and to provide it with further impulses. Here it is important to network the existing instances of communicating literature (schools, churches, bookshops, universities, municipal theatres, libraries) through joint programs and new event formats and to support them in their literary efforts. The merging of city and university in the field of literature is an important goal of the association. A central concern is also low-threshold access to literary culture, which is achieved primarily through networking and numerous partnerships. Important sponsors include the cultural office of the city of Gießen, the Justus Liebig University Gießen, the OVAG and the non-profit foundation of the Sparkasse Gießen.
