The Cultural History Museum Gedern was established in 2004 in the rooms of the archway house of Gedern Castle. Its first thematic focus includes the Vogelsberg Railway to the Volcano Cycle Path; the waiting room of a country railroad station at the end of the 19th century; a route model of the old Vogelsberg Railway and today's Volcano Cycle Path with light-emitting diodes for towns, watercourses, excursion destinations. A second thematic focus lies on legends and fairy tales from Gedern and the Vogelsberg region. The museum also highlights the Gedern castle findings, display boards, paintings, copperplate engravings and old ground plan drawings that inform about the different construction stages of the castle and the farm buildings of the castle complex, as well as the castle park, which was laid out as an English landscape garden at the time. Visitors can also see a facsimile of the document of Charles IV, which contains the granting of the town and market rights to Gedern in 1356.
