Information

The Junge Bühne Mainz is an independent theater in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital of Mainz. After the first beginnings between 2006 and 2010 as a "Theater-Spiel-Werkstatt" in Wiesbaden and Mainz, it has been under the artistic and directing direction of director and actor Philip Barth since 2011 and has existed in its current form ever since. The program includes plays in the evening program as well as fairy tales and plays for children and young people as afternoon performances. All productions are developed and performed with an ensemble of young actors from the independent theater scene in the Rhine-Main region. One focus is expressly on classic pieces and fabrics in a modern, contemporary interpretation. The drama program has already included Schiller's "Die Räuber" (2018 - 2020), the Shakespeare classics "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (2015 - 2016), "Der Sturm" (2016 - 2017) and "Macbeth" (2019) as well as Büchner's "Woyzeck" (since 2013 in the permanent repertoire) and "[Ur]Faust “ by and after Goethe (since 2023) on stage. In children's theater, for example, "Peter Pan" after J.M. Barrie (since 2020), Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" (since 2021) or "The Courageous Tin Soldier & the Paper Dancer" based on H.C. Andersen (since 2022) great popularity. As a theater that expressly sees itself as a stage (also) for young audiences, there are age recommendations for all productions as well as theater mediation offers for teachers, school classes, courses and seminars. Since January 2011, the main venue of the independent theater Junge Bühne Mainz has been the youth and cultural center M8-Bühne with its modern theater in the Haus der Jugend Mainz. The ensemble has a versatile stage with extensive technical equipment at their disposal. The Junge Bühne Mainz takes part in the renowned Mainz Children's Theater Festival with its in-house productions every year and organizes its own "PopUp-Theatertage für Junges Schauspiel" every year in June before the summer break, in which, in addition to in-house productions, productions by the Büchner-Bühne Riedstadt, the Kiel Group, the Mainz Drama School and the Hessian State Theater in Marburg have already been shown. In addition, the Junge Bühne Mainz has already given guest performances at the Mainz Forum Theater Unterhaus, the KUZ Mainz, the Mainz Art Biennale “3 x klingeln” as well as the MiMa Ingelheim and the EuroFolk Festival Ingelheim.
