Visitors can look forward to a documentation of local history spanning six millennia - from the Stone Age to the present day. In the "Archaeological Excavations and Finds" section, exhibits from prehistory and early history are on display and interesting facts about archaeological excavations are provided.
From the Middle Ages to modern times, the Catholic influence of Abenheim through its affiliation with the Fulda monastery (774-1390) and the rule of the Dalberg dynasty (1390-1796) as well as the political impact of the resulting Catholic conservative attitude of the citizens of Abenheim during the Third Reich are particularly emphasised.
Changing special exhibitions, such as 2016's "Abenheim - a village becomes Rhine-Hessian" or 2019's "Abenheimers in the Worms leather works", round off the documentation of local history, which is always illustrated embedded in the historical development of the Rhine-Hesse region and its peculiarities.
After the tour, you can round off your visit with coffee and cake on the ground floor or in the former schoolyard under the chestnut tree. The view rests on the baroque parish church opposite, built around 1740.
