Heimatmuseum Mittelbuchen
63454 Hanau-Mittelbuchen
The Mittelbuchen Museum of Local History has been housed in the Obertor part of the former village fortifications dating from the 15th century since 1998. Since 1991, the Mittelbuchener Heimat- und Geschichtsverein e. V. has been in charge of the building. An overview of the rich prehistory of the area and the village of Mittelbuchen is given. Excavation finds bear witness to the first farmers of the early Linear Pottery all the way to the Frankish settlers of the place. Important everyday objects of Celts, Alamanni, Franks and Romans from a period of 7,000 years are exhibited. Roman fort facilities were discovered during excavations in 2001. In the upper rooms, rural culture in Mittelbuchen is shown by means of milk jugs from southern Hesse, among other things. Archival documents with legal cases from Mittelbuchen since the 16th century give an insight into the history of crime. Texts and photographs deal with the history of Mittelbuchen up to the territorial reform in 1972.
