Information

The Medenbach local history museum at Neufeldstraße 9 (bus stop) is located in the building of the former village school.
As you enter the schoolyard, you can see the wainwright's workshop and the smithy at the back.

Passing the old church clock from 1932, you can already admire large-format historical photos on the staircase walls until you come across an old shoemaker's workshop on the 2nd floor, with all the components preserved in their original condition, just as the village shoemaker worked in the middle of the last century and the following decades.
In the adjoining large exhibition room, visitors will find an extensive collection of black and white photos from the beginning to the middle of the last century, in addition to special exhibitions that change every six months: of buildings and streets, of people at work and celebrations, of the school and church, of young and old.
The permanent exhibition focuses on former village life in the farming village of Medenbach: dairy farming, washing, wine pressing, stockpiling, etc.
There are also artefacts from Celtic and Roman times.

In the large school hall on the first floor, where lessons were once held in the often one-class school (40 to 50 children from class 1 to 8), new exhibition focal points on the history of the village have been created:

The post office displays an old post office with parcel scales, sorting locker, various postal uniforms, postal bicycle with trailer and many other objects worth seeing. The room is unique in the region.
The teacher's desk, pupils' benches, blackboard, map and other materials are reminiscent of the old village school.
The kitchen with its cooker, sandstone sink, cupboard, table and shelves is reminiscent of the 1930s and the post-war period.
The children's room with its cot, scooter, rocking horse and doll's pram will remind some older people of their childhood. Of course, only a few houses had one of the four magnificent doll's houses.
Extensive archaeological finds from the Medenbach area from the Stone Age and Roman times complete the diverse exhibition.

A highlight and highly recommended visit is the historic pub. The original furnishings with bar, advertising hoardings, tables and seating, wall decorations and many details show what the pubs in the villages looked like before the World War and up until the 1960s. The small village of Medenbach had four public houses.
