The house on Kirschenallee, which has been opened after renovations in 1996, since belongs to the HLMD since 2001. In the "working" museum, voluntary typesetters and printers demonstrate working techniques using numerous functioning machines that vividly document the transition from manual to machine work in the printing industry from the beginning of the 19th century to the 1970s. At the same time, the museum is a testimony to ingenious engineering and top performance in mechanical engineering: hand typesetting, machine typesetting, historical printing presses, type casting, intaglio printing (etching) and planographic printing (lithography) are put into practice in printing workshops. In addition, a bookbinding workshop provides an insight into bookbinding techniques.
