Information
We are the central open-air museum of the Hesse, currently showing the village and small town everyday life and festive culture from the 17th century to the 1980s. The whole variety of building is presented, including living as well as handicraft, agricultural and domestic work from the pre-industrial era, early mechanization and industrial modernity. Our collection of over 150,000 objects of everyday culture has developped into the living memory of Hesse. Thus, the entrusted monuments and objects are – in close liaison with the Hessian real estate management – responsibly taken care of. Scientific research and presentation create the basis for an illustrative mediation our museum contents.
