Information

"Filme im Schloss” is the only venue in the Rhine-Main area that shows top international films exclusively in their unadulterated original versions (some with subtitles). All genres are shown: feature films, documentaries, experimental films, and animated films, each in their unadulterated original versions. The focus is on remarkable films that are rarely shown in regular cinemas. They are often screened as part of series. Part of Films in the Castle is the “Wiesbaden International Animation Film Weekend,” which has been held annually in the second half of October since 1999.

The venue is the screening room of the Wiesbaden State Film Rating Agency in the east wing of Biebrich Castle. Since its reconstruction in 1982, it has been home to the FBW - German Film and Media Rating Agency (formerly the Wiesbaden Film Rating Agency), an institution of the federal states. In 1984, the first Films in the Castle events were held in the screening room on the initiative of filmmaker and critic Joachim Kreck, together with dramaturge Detelina Grigorova-Kreck and Michael Fechner. In 1999, the three organizers transferred responsibility for the event to the Friends of Films in the Castle.
