The private library dates back to 1569. The online catalogue (OPAC), which is publicly accessible via the Stolberg library's homepage, currently contains around 40,000 titles. The focus is on theology and church history as well as the Harz region and the former county of Wernigerode with a comprehensive regional and family history collection. There are also holdings from the fields of ancient, German and French literature, legal, historical and geographical works and others. In addition to around 100 incunabula, the library contains printed works from the 16th century onwards, around 1,200 manuscripts, more than 4,000 graphics, maps and plans, a previously unrecorded number of historical photographs, a catalogue machine from the 18th century as well as a so-called ‘Wunderkammer’ with a natural history cabinet and an archaeological collection. The Prince of Stolberg-Wernigerode Library is open to the public. Use of the holdings on site is possible by appointment. The library premises can be hired for special events.
