technikum29
65779 Kelkheim
The technikum29 is a private technology museum in the Rhine-Main area with a focus on computer history between the 1920s and 1980s. This period includes the transition from mechanical calculators to punch card EDP to computers with integrated circuits (ICs). In addition, the collection includes some other topics, such as the development of radios and televisions of that time. The 250 square meter exhibition is complemented by a comprehensive website with background information. The special thing about the technikum: All exhibits in the technikum29 are functional. There are no showcases or boards, instead selected devices are demonstrated as part of a guided tour by experts. Similar concepts can only be found worldwide at the UK Computer Museum, the Seattle Living Computer Museum and of course the California Computer History Museum. In all three museums, however, the restoration of computers is the exception, not the rule.
