Information

In the mayhaus, a restored terraced house in the middle of the Römerstadt housing complex, the urban and housing development of New Frankfurt is presented in a permanent exhibition. The architect Ernst May designed the comfortable, two-storied model house with a garden for a small family. A narrow,  corridor-like standard kitchen, the so-called Frankfurt kitchen, is part of the simple and functional furnishings. All in all, the houses in the May settlements differed considerably in terms of location, size and furnishings from the inadequately equipped and cramped apartment buildings that were common in downtown Frankfurt.
