The collection of the Museum für Moderne Kunst comprises over 5.000 works of art, from the 1960s to the present day. With significant groups of works by international and national artists, the museum is one of the most important institutions of contemporary art. Since 2007, the former main customs office in Frankfurt has been a venue of the MUSEUM FÜR MODERNE KUNST. Built in 1927 after a design by Werner Hebebrand, it is located diagonally opposite the museum’s main building and testifies to an extensive reform endeavours of the 1920s: comparable to the Bauhaus, Neues Frankfurt was one of the first comprehensive urban development and social projects of its kind. Numerous buildings in Frankfurt as well as products and graphic design elements are closely associated with it. Many public buildings were newly erected, including the main customs office. After World War II, various renovations and conversions followed.
