Volkspark Niddatal
open daily
At approximately 168 hectares, the Volkspark Niddatal – affectionately known as "Niddapark" by Frankfurt residents – is the city's largest green space. As part of Frankfurt's Green Belt, this protected landscape offers an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether jogging, cycling, or taking long walks, everyone can find their own space here.
The park's design follows a special principle: both people and nature should have equal rights. While expansive flower meadows and narrow paths evoke the original floodplain landscape, striking sandstone bastions and the magnificent linden avenue provide architectural highlights.
From here, the view sweeps across the Taunus mountains to the Frankfurt skyline.
History & Development
Although initial plans existed as early as 1914, the park was not completed in its current form until the 1989 Federal Garden Show and was opened to the public in 1990. Significant investments have been made in recent years: Between 2007 and 2015, the entire network of paths was modernized and historical vistas were restored. For families, the water feature, redesigned in 2013, is a particular highlight in the summer.
