Information

The municipal museum, situated in Killingerhaus, presents a vivid picture of the history of Idstein over the last 900 years. The information presented on the first floor ranges from Church history over urban development and building history to self-government, civil rights and civic duties. The history of the original castle and the Palace, the history of the Walram part of the house of Nassau and the scholastic history are other focuses. The life of the bourgeoisie and the peasant population of the 18th and 19th century, handicraft and trade and the history of the Idstein leather industry are the main aspects presented on the second floor. The exhibition "At eye level on two walls" showcases works of the Idstein painter Ernst Toepfer. The annexe building in Obergasse houses the exhibition "7 stones - 7 lives", centering arounf the lives of Julius, Erna and Bertel Lore Kahn, of Julius, Hedwig and Herta Grünebaum and of Eugenie Goldschmidt, Jewish families that became the victims of expulsion and the Holocaust.
