Information

The museum is housed on the site of a former fortress. The permanent exhibition teaches visitors about local history from the last Ice Age to the Roman era and the early Middle Ages to the Modern Age through the "space-time" section. The focus lies on everyday life of artisan and peasant families and the construction of the castle and its development into a Hessian fortress. The section "machine-time" focuses on the development of business operations and the changes in the working and everyday life and its conditions in the 19th and early 20th century. Visitors can also learn how the Opel family developed from craftsmen origins to an industrial dynasty. Special exhibitions are also shown in the museum.
