With the multimedia guide, visitors can discover Eppstein Castle. Since 1926, the museum, founded in 1908, is located in the only fully preserved building group of Eppstein Castle. On the first floor, the undestroyed, repeatedly rebuilt castle from the 10th century to 1802 is presented. Finds from the castle grounds and models show the castle as a center of power, a residence of the nobility, a military installation and a symbol of power. Themed groups illustrate everyday life in the castle. The large model of the castle from around 1750 gives a picture of the late period of the complex. After 1804, the picturesque ruin became a popular artistic motif. From the beginning of the 20th century the mere enthusiasm for the ruins changed into responsible preservation of monuments. In 1913, the castle festival, the oldest still existing open-air theater in the Rhine-Main area, began.
