Rolls Royce: Werksmuseum Motorenfabrik Oberursel
61440 Oberursel (Taunus)
From stationary engines to modern aircraft engines – this is a short and succinct description of what visitors can expect in the Rolls-Royce Germany factory museum. It is a short journey of discovery through the industrial history of the Oberursel engine factory, today's Oberursel plant of the drive manufacturer Rolls-Royce. The museum was opened to mark the site's 110th anniversary in 2002. The small but fine exhibition rooms provide information about the interesting history of this historic industrial site and the products manufactured here using mostly original objects. Historical images and documents complement the exhibition.
Subjects: The museum promises an exciting journey through the history of engines and engines and provides detailed information about all products and developments and the great innovative power of the Oberursel engine builders. The foray begins with a GNOM stationary engine from the 1890s, continues through the rotary aircraft engines built here from 1913 to 1919, various licensed productions and in-house developments up to the BR710 turbofan engine developed under BMW Rolls-Royce AeroEngines, which is used to power modern long-haul aircraft. Information is also provided about Oberursel's current role in the global Rolls-Royce Group. High-tech components for numerous Rolls-Royce engine programs are manufactured here using the most modern manufacturing technologies, and the site is also a maintenance and servicing center for small gas turbines for numerous military and civil applications. A factory museum that presents the range from the early days of engine construction to today's high-tech production under one roof.
The factory museum is run by the Geschichtskreis Motorenfabrik Oberursel e.V. (History Group Motorenfabrik Oberursel e.V.)
