Information

The Nierstein Paleontological Museum is housed in the old town hall of the city of Nierstein. The fossil collection of the renowned leisure researcher and founder of the museum, Arnulf Stapf, is presented in four exhibition rooms. With this collection, which consists of several thousand objects, the Nierstein Paleontological Museum offers visitors a fascinating insight into the extremely diverse animal and plant world millions of years ago. The focus of the collection, which was assembled in European countries, is the fossils from the Tertiary period of the Mainz Basin and from the Saar-Palatinate Rotliegend. Contrary to the current trend of reducing the number of objects in exhibitions, the museum displays a surprisingly large number of different originals in an appealing way. In order to preserve the charm of this exhibition, a modern, interactive museum concept was deliberately avoided. Instead, what is surprising here is the personal presence of fossil collectors who are available to visitors as contact persons during opening hours.
