Oper Frankfurt is the music theatre of the Städtische Bühnen in Frankfurt am Main. It is one of the most important music theatres in Europe and was named Opera House of the Year by Opernwelt magazine in 1996, 2003, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022. A permanent opera company has existed in Frankfurt am Main since 1792. In 1880, the monumental opera house in neo-Renaissance style was opened. Destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt between 1976 and 1981, the Alte Oper now serves as a concert and congress centre. Since 1951, the Frankfurt Opera has had its venue on Willy-Brandt-Platz, the former theatre square.
