On the roof terrace of the Haus am Dom, Domplatz 3, there will once again be a summer open-air cinema from 24 July to 16 August 2026, offering the city’s finest views, along with cool drinks and snacks. Eight recent feature films will be screened, seven of which are recommended by the r Katholischen Filmkommission für Deutschland. Advance ticket sales are now open.

The common thread linking these otherwise quite diverse films is the element of surprise: tender friendships in unexpected constellations, death and what comes before it, ideals cast aside, non-verbal communication, abuse, and help from strangers in the darkest of moments. All too often, things simply do not turn out as expected. “That’s when resilience is essential for finding a new direction – that’s what this year’s film selection is all about,” says Prof. Dr Joachim Valentin, co-director of the Haus am Dom and the Catholic Academy alongside Andrea Hörner. She adds: “The Summer Cinema is one of the most popular event series at the Haus am Dom every year. For us, it’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our fantastic roof terrace. It goes without saying that selfies with cocktails against the skyline are always part of the cinema evenings!”
