Museum in der Anstalt is located in the cultural monument Alte Bürgermeisterei in Hähnlein and is run by the Museumsverein Alsbach-Hähnlein e.V.. In addition to the history of the house, a former rescue home for neglected and socially destitute male youths, the museum documents the social change in the village with the beginning of industrialization. With the onset of poverty among the rural population, many residents began to work in factories in Darmstadt. They remained farmers as a sideline and kept goats.
Another part of the museum is dedicated to the early history of the region and shows the results of excavations and finds from the region, including a huge mammoth tusk, in the archaeological gallery.
