Information
In the city museum, visitors can trace the history of the city from its beginnings until today. Finds from the Neolithic Age or a Celtic arm ring testify to an already prehistoric settlement of the town area. Coins and documents about Homberg (Ohm) as a mint or market privileges from the 16th century prove the importance of the town as a regional center. From the Middle Ages, wooden water pipes, the old town hall clock and various crafts are on display. The beginnings of basalt mining in the quarry in Nieder-Ofleiden, which today is the largest open-cast basalt mine in Europe, are also a topic in the exhibition rooms. In the brewery tower, the old dungeon offers a multimedia museum experience that visitors should not miss!
