The project VG-Museum was established in 2001 with the idea of combining and supplementing the existing collections of the Heimatmuseums Gimbsheim and Eich with finds and heritages from the other communities in the municipality of Eich, Hamm, Alsheim, Mettenheim. The rent-free allocation of the rooms of the former "Storchenschulhaus" to the community of the municipality of Gimbsheim and the decision of the association council to pay the running costs and to pay a one-off amount for the construction of the museum, made the realization of the project possible. Significant amounts were contributed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Culture through the Museum Association of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and by sponsors. Thus, a working group could start with the content planning and the practical implementation. The working group continues to take over the supervision of the museum and the responsibility for content, supported by the VG administration and the association. Sponsor is the Verbandsgemeinde Eich. In addition to its function as an exhibition space, the museum will in the future become the centre of diverse cultural activities: museum days, guided tours through the villages and the municipalities of the association, lectures, changing art exhibitions, special exhibitions on various topics.
