Information

The Museum Stangenberg Merck, which opened in 2010, is one of the most beautiful private art museums on the Bergstrasse and is often described by visitors as a "Gesamtkunstwerk", a synthesis of the arts. It is located 12 kilometers south of Darmstadt, in a villa built in 1860 and extended in 1904 to the "Haus auf der Höhe" by the famous architect Metzendorf. The museum spans three storeys of approximately 600 m², and houses, above all, the work of the painter Heidy Stangenberg-Merck, who grew up in this house. Some rooms show works by her mother, Marietta Merck, and Karl Stangenberg.
