When surprisingly mighty stone blocks appeared in September 1986, at the beginning of construction work, nobody could foresee, that what was only barely saved from a trip to the dumpby the rapid initiative of the society for local history, was in fact one of the most important discoveries in the field of Roman archaeology: the Germanicus arch, the most epochal building north of the Alps.
