Information

When Sigrid Pless (1911 - 2005) discovered and bought a cup with the ‘Full green vine wreath’ decoration during a shopping trip at the end of the 1950s, this first encounter with the famous Meissen porcelain sparked an intense passion for collecting. The foundation for one of the world's largest collections of Meissen porcelain outside Meissen was laid.

When the collector moved from Frankfurt am Main to Bad Soden am Taunus in 1982, the first pieces of her collection came into the possession of the town of Bad Soden am Taunus. Today, over 1,300 pieces of the famous ‘Voller grüner Weinkranz’ decoration (15a, now 841501), which was first produced in Meissen in 1817, are on display in the foyer of the H+ Hotel.

In the course of her collecting activities, Sigrid Pless expanded her Meissen porcelain collection with white and coloured animal sculptures - including sculptures based on models by Johann Joachim Kaendler, Johann Friedrich Eberlein, Erich Hölsel, Max Esser and Peter Strang. Over 540 of these fragile sculptures and figures complement the exhibition at the H+ Hotel and thus show not only two very different areas of porcelain culture, but also their diversity.

The town of Bad Soden am Taunus has Sigrid Pless to thank for the fact that this unique collection of so-called ‘white gold’ is accessible to the public. For her tireless commitment, she was awarded honorary citizenship of the town of Bad Soden am Taunus in 1996 and the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2003.
