Kurpark Wiesbaden
open daily
Immediately behind the magnificent Kurhaus (spa building) lies one of Germany's most beautiful parks: the Kurpark, laid out in 1852 in the English landscape style. It is a place of peace and enjoyment, characterized by a diverse array of magnolias, azaleas, and exotic bald cypress trees.
The centerpiece of the park is the expansive pond. Here, you can admire the impressive six-meter-high fountain while enjoying a leisurely rowboat or pedal boat ride, or take in the view of the richly decorated bandstand. That this historic stage still graces the concert venue for over 3,000 guests is a stroke of luck for the city's history – its demolition in the 1950s was fortunately averted.
Follow in the footsteps of world literature at "Nizza-Plätzchen" (Nice Square). A bust of Fyodor Dostoevsky stands amidst the antique columns of the old Kurhaus. The famous writer drew on his painful experiences here at the Wiesbaden Casino for his masterpiece, "The Gambler." Whether jogging on winding paths or relaxing on the wide meadows: The spa park remains the glamorous calling card of the spa town.
