As the owner and resident of Schloss Assenheim, Philip Graf zu Solms continues patronage in a contemporary way: his goal is to dissolve the boundaries between visual art and the lived world. Beyond the limited possibilities of institutions, the artists at Schloss Assenheim find exceptional conditions, both spatially and atmospherically, for the free creation of new works. At the same time, the non-profit idea is firmly anchored in this concept. Philip Graf zu Solms began collecting contemporary art in order to capture "a moment ahead of its time every time." Enthusiasm for this turned into a desire to support the creation of art even more directly: Graf zu Solms now facilitates the creation of art – first in institutions like Ballroom Marfa, Texas, and now at Schloss Assenheim. "Because even more exciting than buying a moment," he says, "is being present at such a moment."
