Information

An exhibition venue run by Kulturkreis-Bad Orb e.V.

The smallest half-timbered house in Hesse dominates Bad Orb's town centre in Kirchgasse. It is the last pure half-timbered street in Bad Orb. The half-timbering is exposed on all the houses in the street. Some of the beautiful old front doors have been preserved.

At the end of Kirchgasse stands the ‘smallest house’, as the extension in front of the actual main house is affectionately called.

With a width of just 1.58 metres at its narrowest point, it has been awarded the title of ‘Hesse's narrowest half-timbered house’ in a competition run by a building society magazine. It also has historical significance: it was the first payment office of the Raiffeisen cooperative in Bad Orb.

Built in 1634, the listed cottage now houses changing exhibitions. However, living in this curious miniature building is not so easy, as the walls are ‘crooked and uneven’. With 84 square metres of living space, however, it is larger than it appears from the outside.

And by the way: civil weddings can also be held in Hesse's narrowest half-timbered house. Approximately 30 wedding guests can attend the ceremony. Information can be obtained from the town council, tel. +49 (0) 6052 86-234.
