This concert series has been held annually as an ‘open-air’ event since 1959, organised by the Palmengarten in Frankfurt am Main.
‘Jazz im Palmengarten’ was founded by Werner Wunderlich, the radio presenter and journalist widely known in jazz circles († 2013). Albert Mangelsdorff († 2005) was also closely involved from the very beginning. Since 2003, the Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt am Main e.V. (JIF) has been curating the series. It is regarded as the world’s oldest continuously running open-air jazz concert series.
