Six exhibition rooms invite you on an exciting tour. Visitors embark on a journey through time from the beginnings of printmaking to today's paper theatre.

In a separate theatre room in the exhibition, a short film provides information about the how and what of paper theatre.

After all, who has ever played with one of these at home? Is the ‘television’ of past generations just a nice craft project, a children's toy, or why is paper theatre even  „Immaterielles Kulturerbe der UNESCO“?

The Papiertheatermuseum has been an integral part of the Hanau Philippsruhe Castle Historical Museum since 28 January 1990 – exactly 36 years ago.

Das GrimmsMärchenReich im Schloss Philippsruhe präsentiert eine innovative Verbindung aus klassischer Ausstellung und interaktivem Erlebnisraum. Die von der Agentur Schwarz-Düser*Düser gestaltete Schau beleuchtet das Leben und Werk der Brüder Jacob, Wilhelm und Ludwig Emil Grimm sowie deren bisher weniger bekannten Geschwister.

Ein herausragendes Merkmal ist der partizipative Ansatz: Ein KinderKomitee begleitete die Konzeption von Beginn an, wofür das Projekt 2019 mit dem Hanauer Nachhaltigkeitspreis ausgezeichnet wurde. Neben wertvollen Exponaten aus der Sammlung des Hanauer Geschichtsvereins bietet das Museum Raum für Rollenspiele und kreative Eigenleistung an der „Märchenhecke“. Das Ergebnis ist ein dynamisches Museumskonzept, das speziell auf die Bedürfnisse von Familien, Kindergärten und Schulen zugeschnitten ist
