The Herrngarten, the oldest and largest park in the city, developed from a stately kitchen garden into a sprawling English landscape park in the 16th century. Under the ‘Great Landgravine’ Caroline, this idyllic scenery of ponds, streams and rolling meadows was created, which has been open to all citizens since 1811.
Whether strolling along the twelve-metre-high Herrngartenberg or taking a break in the modern Herrngarten Café, the park is the living room of Darmstadt's residents.
