Heimatmuseum in der Wasserburg Rückingen
63526 Erlensee
By appointment
The Erlensee Museum of Local History is located in the former moated castle, which was first mentioned in a document in 1248. A main focus of the collection is excavation finds from the Roman fort Rückingen such as weapons, iron parts, glass, coins, medical devices and bowls, grave finds, brick stamps and Terra Sigillata. Local crafts such as diamond grinding and rubbing, a shoemaker's workshop and a carpenter's workshop, tools for domestic slaughtering, and a typesetter's workshop are exhibited in the "craftsmen's room"; a kitchen and a living room from around 1900 provide insights into everyday life at that time. The radio and office machines are new. They contrast recent history with uncovered remains of the Roman fort baths nearby.
