Information

The House of City History was created by merging the City Museum and Archive and opened its doors in 2004. The permanent exhibition outlines an exhibition period of almost 10,000 years, beginning with prehistory and early history and ending after the Middle Ages and modern times with glimpses of the future. The museum takes into account important aspects that are also worthy of national attention, such as the history of the Huguenots and Jews in Offenbach. In general, this self-confident presentation of Offenbach's history raises fundamental questions about the historical interconnectedness of the Rhine-Main region. In addition to the display collection, the exhibition room "Industriehalle" provides the opportunity to visit exhibitions of various kinds at regular intervals.

In addition, the municipal archives offer research opportunities, e.g. for family research, newspaper viewing, heir tracing and much more. Historical issues of the Offenbach Post can also be purchased. There are files and official books of the Offenbach city administration, the districts of Bieber, Bürgel and Rumpenheim, a contemporary history collection (mainly newspaper clippings), Offenbach newspapers (from 1816 onwards), address books and card indexes, historical photographs and postcards, maps, plans and posters, printed matter and research literature.
