No other medium has shaped the 20th century, captured it as comprehensively and authentically as the film. But none was ever so threatened by loss: maiming, destruction and decomposition of the material have already damaged a large part of the film heritage. The Murnau Foundation has set itself the task of preserving, restoring and reconstructing this cultural film heritage and making it accessible to the public. Since April 2009, the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation has operated the Deutsche Filmhaus in a central location in the state capital of Wiesbaden, which offers a home to film-cultural institutions, interest groups from the film industry as well as film and media companies. In the modern office and event complex, the Murnau-Filmtheater offers public film screenings, while the multi-functional area hosts numerous events and exhibitions.
