Since May 2017, Frankfurt artist Daniel Hartlaub and Frankfurt cultural manager and curator Florian Koch have been operating this art platform in public space. They jointly developed the idea of repurposing a classic, 3.60-meter-high advertising pillar into an KunstSäule (ArtPillar), on which top-ranking artists take turns three times a year to present an attractive position that appeals to the general public: After a presentation of a work by Daniel Hartlaub on an advertising pillar in front of the Museum für Kommunikation at the Luminale 2016 brought a diverse positive response, they decided to establish an ArtPillar permanently in Frankfurt with the help of partners. They envisioned an exhibition space beyond the classic museum and gallery formats, in a place where the most diverse groups of visitors could have an unbiased, unsupervised, and ever-changing view of contemporary art.
