open daily
As the "green lung" of the district town, the Fasanerie (pheasantry) looks back on a history spanning over 300 years. Originally established between 1722 and 1726 as a hunting ground for the Dukes of Darmstadt, the approximately 30-hectare area is still enclosed by mighty walls. What makes it special: These walls were largely constructed from the stones of Dornberg Castle, which was destroyed in 1689 – a stone testament to bygone eras.
Today, the listed park is a paradise for families and nature lovers. In the center, at the main intersection, an almost 100-year-old pyramidal oak, a designated natural monument, watches over visitors. While the forest nature trail provides interesting facts about European mixed forests, the artistic wooden sculptures by chainsaw artist Christoph Peez draw admiring glances along the paths.
