Energiemuseum Karlstein
See website
The Karlstein Energy Museum documents the extraordinary energy history of the Karlstein/Großwelzheim region – from lignite mining and coal-fired power stations to nuclear energy. Housed in the former information centre of the Kahl Experimental Nuclear Power Plant (VAK), the museum uses numerous original exhibits, models and technical installations to provide fascinating insights into the development of energy supply in Germany. Former VAK employees now volunteer their time to guide visitors through the exhibition. In addition to the history of Germany’s first commercial nuclear power plant, the museum also explores modern energy technologies and the transition to new forms of energy.
