Die Affirmative
Die Affirmative is a professional improvisational theatre troupe based in Mainz and Frankfurt. We perform regularly in Mainz, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and the Rhine-Main region. Our main venues in Mainz are the Unterhaus, the KUZ, the Frankfurter Hof and the Schloss. In Frankfurt, we perform at the Volksbühne, the Käs and, from 2026, also at the Kellertheater.
We run Germany’s largest improv school, with over 300 active students, 29 weekly courses and regular workshops – right in the heart of Mainz and Frankfurt. We regularly invite international comedy and improv stars to join us for workshops and shows.
We compete for the audience’s favour in German and international improv theatre competitions (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Würzburg, Hamburg, The Hague). It’s not uncommon for us to bring the winner’s crown back to Mainz in our hand luggage. At improv festivals, we run workshops and perform our own specially created improv formats. Last year, for example, we did so in Zurich, Bremen, Brest, Munich, Dublin and Tampere (Finland).
Alongside our full-time work as actors and theatre educators, we are also committed to supporting Mainz, Frankfurt and the wider region – through charity performances and free courses for young people and children.
