The Deutsches Kabarett Archiv in Mainz is a unique research and meeting place. As a central location for the history of cabaret, satire, and small-scale performing arts, it combines academic depth with lively communication. The archive houses a seemingly inexhaustible collection of photos, posters, (director's) books, sound recordings, sheet music, caricatures, manuscripts, and typescripts.
Visitors are immediately immersed in the world of political humor and encounter influential personalities such as Kurt Tucholsky, Karl Valentin, Hanns Dieter Hüsch, Dieter Hildebrandt, and Loriot. The extensive collection includes photos, posters, manuscripts, audio recordings, books, caricatures, and numerous bequests and estates. Presented in the historic barrel vault of the former provisions warehouse, cultural history becomes vivid and tangible here.
With its museum, guided tours, lectures, special exhibitions, and events, the Kabarett Archiv remains a lively place of exchange and inspiration—far more than an archive, but a vibrant center of satire.
