Information

The collection of the German Bookbinding Museum has been housed in the Gutenberg Museum since the 1960s and illustrates both the history of the craft and the techniques and products of artisan bookbinding. As the largest bookbinding museum in the German-speaking world, it operates on a national scale. Through its close contacts with the MDE (Master of the Binding Art), it also has international relations with bookbinders' associations in the USA, England, the Netherlands and Belgium. In addition to the historical presentation of the history of the craft, in recent years more emphasis has been placed on the "living" communication of the craft. Demonstrations, workshops and a wide range of museum educational activities provide a broad insight into the profession.
