More than 100 years ago one of the first electricity plants worldwide - today a prominent place in the middle of Darmstadt for cultural events of all kinds. Every year well over 150,000 visitors come here to the more than 350 events in the hall, the hall and the bar of the central station.
Thanks to its flexible and open architectural design, concerts ranging from rock to jazz to classical music fit into the cultural work just as much as lectures, film, theater or concerts for children, young people and families.
More than 20 years ago, on March 25, 1999, the Centralstation cultural project started and at that time was like an initial spark for the revitalization of Darmstadt's city center. Even with its resonance far beyond the city limits, the central station is an important location factor for Darmstadt.
The Centralstation is neither a municipal theater nor a cabaret stage. It is not a youth center, opera house, disco, literature house, science center or jazz club: it is a bit of everything - adapted and geared to the size and needs of a metropolitan, urban-oriented, cosmopolitan city of 160,000 inhabitants.
