Information
The Brüder Grimm Festspiele Hanau are an annual open-air festival held in Hanau from mid-May to the end of July. With currently around 80,000 visitors per season, the Hanau Festival is one of the largest open-air plays in Hesse. Since 1985, several fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm's Children's and Household Tales have been dramatised each year and performed in the park of Philippsruhe Castle. The 200th birthday of Jacob Grimm, in 1985, was the occasion for the 1st Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Festival. As the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm and the starting point of the German Fairy Tale Route, Hanau was the ideal venue.
