Bethmannpark
Bethmannpark
Mon-Fri 7am until dusk, Sat-Sun 10am until dusk.
Consultation garden: Mon, Wed, Fri 10am-12pm
Nestled between Friedberger Landstraße and the Anlagenring (ring road), Bethmannpark is a green oasis that silences the noise of the city behind its walls. Where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once strolled, visitors today can enjoy a magnificent show garden. The colorful flowerbeds are particularly impressive in spring and summer, while the shady benches and outdoor chessboard invite relaxation.
Highlights at a glance:
• The Chinese Garden: Hidden behind white walls is the "Garden of Heavenly Peace." With its jasper-green pond, delicate bridges, and faithfully restored pagodas, it is considered one of the most authentic Chinese gardens in Europe. It is a memorial to the Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989.
• The Orangery: The former camellia house of the Bethmann family now serves as a modern information center. Here, the "plant doctor" offers valuable advice on plant care.
• Historical Heritage: Owned by the Bethmann banking family since 1783 and city-owned since 1941, the park combines Baroque garden design with botanical diversity.
